The Professional Master’s in Engineering provides students with a premier curriculum. The program is a coursework master’s and students will undertake dedicated courses, design projects, and a paid industrial co-op placement. The master’s degree program is designed to be completed in 16 months. The program includes 3 Lab Courses in which students will work on industry-level projects and also includes a four-month paid Co-op placement. Students in the School of Mechatronics Engineering have undertaken paid Co-op placements. Graduates of the Professional Master’s in Engineering can apply to be an Engineer-in-Training in British Columbia.
The Associate of Arts degree at FIC acts as the 1st year of the program at SFU. It is a 60 credit-hour degree. This program is offered under the written consent of the Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development having undergone a quality assessment process and been found to meet the criteria established by the Minister. The degree is designed specifically to cater to the skill demands coveted for higher education in this field in Canada. Local and international students would highly benefit from the program as the degree will be appropriate to their needs in being acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions.
The Computing Science program is equivalent to the first year of SFU's Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) degree program. It provides the foundation for further study in many aspects of computing to help students choose their area of specialization for their undergraduate degree. The proper completion this program will help students secure a position in the 2nd year at SFU under various areas of study from artificial intelligence to theoretical computing science. Students must complete a minimum of 10 academic courses at FIC with an overall GPA of 2.75 and with a grade of C- or better in all courses upon completion of UTP Stage II, in order to be guaranteed admission to the School of Computing Science.
