Diplomacy and the military have always played a pivotal role in significant political, social, and economic development around the world. To be an effective leader of the future, it is therefore important to have a solid understanding of how diplomacy and the military impact politics and society. Hawai‘i Pacific University’s (HPU) Master of Arts in Diplomacy and Military Studies (MADMS) provides you with an interdisciplinary view of the role of diplomacy and military force in world affairs from both a contemporary and historical perspective.
This concentration is for those students who like the challenges of demystifying puzzles as well as problem-solving. HPU prepares you for the CPA exam by studying the theories and concepts behind the figures, then financial reporting, auditing, taxes, and all tools needed to become ready for the dynamic world of accounting. Students graduate prepared to seek accounting positions in public accounting, private industry, government service, and not-for-profit organizations. Internships are available and may be considered as an elective for this concentration.
The history major at Hawai'i Pacific University provides students with a solid foundation in the field of historical studies and its methodologies. It offers broad exposure to the past, chronologically and geographically, through a required sequence of courses studying in-depth American, Asian, European, and Pacific histories. The major's capstone course is a seminar resulting in a major piece of research and synthesis. The history major develops skills and a base of knowledge to prepare the student for graduate study in history. It also enables one to pursue careers drawing upon competency in research, writing, analysis, comparative perspectives, multicultural sensitivities, foreign language ability, and related skills relevant for managerial positions in a variety of changing markets.
